HBO aired one of the most talked-about and divisive series of recent years. Following months of filming delays, reports of massive creative shake-ups, and concerns from crew members about the shifting subject matter, HBO's latest scripted series The Idol made its world premiere at Cannes earlier this week. The series created by Levinson and Tesfaye's "dark and twisted minds" is now available to viewers.

Starring alongside Depp, who has acted in films including Netflix's historical piece The King and the science fiction drama Voyagers, is Tesfaye, who is making his acting debut in the series. Several singers, including Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK, who will be credited as Jennie Ruby Jane, will also star in the film in unidentified capacities.

Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek), Da'Vine Joy Randolph (High Fidelity), Eli Roth (Inglorious Basterds), Hari Nef (Barbie), Jane Adams (Hacks), Rachel Sennott (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), and Hank Azaria (Ray Donovan) are just a few of the other talented performers in the group.

The Idol Air Time

The Idol's sixth and final season will launch on HBO and its rebranded streaming platform Max on June 4, 2023. The show will consist of six one-hour episodes. After being delayed a year owing to "major changes" (more on that below), the première finally airs nearly two years after Tesfaye initially announced the series in June 2021. Throughout this time period, Tesfaye has released teases for the performance at his concerts and shared exclusive photographs from the set on Instagram, giving fans a first glimpse at what's to come. HBO provides the following synopsis of the show's plot: Jocelyn's (Lily-Rose Depp) previous tour was disrupted by a nervous breakdown, but now she's back and ready to reclaim her place as the finest and sexiest pop diva in America. Tedros (Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye), a shady nightclub promoter, reignites her ardor. What kind of person she'll become as a result of her love awakening is an open question. From what we've seen in the trailers, we're placing our money on the second option.
